The water at the field events – a message from the Field Chairs

With our dogs’ health at the forefront of everything we do, GRCA is monitoring the recent news concerning possibly toxic algae in the water in the Portland, OR area. Although alarming, the Sauvie Island site is more than 1.5 hours North of any of the GRCA field properties. We are keeping an eye on the situation, but so far, there is no connection to the 2023 GRCA National events.

A message from Susan Faulkner, Hunt Test Chair

Toxic blue-green algae was just found at Sauvie Island, a Portland area Retriever field testing/training grounds. I have talked with the Zellner property landowner and she assured me that they have never had an issue with water quality. Their ponds are filled from their well, a completely different scenario from Sauvie Island. There will be a Field Trial 2 weeks prior to the National Specialty at Zellner’s. In addition, I plan to perform rapid-tests on each pond on set-up day to ensure safety.

A message from Lee Herskowitz, Field Trial Chair

Like the Zellner property, the three sites of the Field Trial at Duck Central also use well water and rapid-tests on each pond will be performed on set up day to ensure safety.
